What
the Bible says about "Global Warming"
There is a promise from God that as the long as the earth remains that
there will not be a global warming that will stop the seasons or the cold
or the harvesting of fields. It may get warmer in the course of things but
it will never do to the earth what the forecasters of global warming are
predicting. How can I believe this? I believe this simply because the Lord
has given us his word in the Bible. After the flood God made a number of
promises in a covenant that he made with Noah. The following scripture is
part of this covenant.
Genesis 8:21: And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in
his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for
the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I
again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
22: While the
earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and
winter, and day and night shall not cease.
There is coming a global warming for sure but is it now? It is
interesting to note that the Bible does speak of a time when things are
going to get very hot on this earth. And we have all been pre-warned of
this time that is coming. This event will take place at the end of the
millenial reign.
2nd Peter 3:10: But the day of the Lord will come as a thief
in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise,
and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the
works that are therein shall be burned up.
11: Seeing then that all
these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in
all holy conversation and godliness,
12: Looking for and hasting unto
the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be
dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
In order to explain the above scriptures it is necessary to share that
Peter saw the day of the Lord and the earth burning in one moment of time.
However other scriptures explain that this day of fire will come at the
end of the great white throne judgement which will be a thousand years
after Jesus returns to gather the Church. But these events will happen as
God has told us. The globe (the earth) will be warm and that is for sure.
So what do you think?
I am not trying to say that there is no warming taking place at all but
I believe that it is more in the normal cycle of climate changes that
takes place every few hundred years. For example Greenland was named
Greenland because of it's appearance to the vikings that built dwelling
places and communities there. From AD 986, it was colonised by Icelanders
in two settlements on fjords near the southwesternmost tip of the island.
The settlements, such as Brattahlid, thrived for several centuries but
disappeared sometime in the 1400s, at that time there was a cooling trend
that is known as the Little Ice Age. Data from ice cores indicate that
between AD 800 and 1300 the regions around the fjords of southern
Greenland experienced a mild climate, with trees and herbaceous plants
growing and livestock being farmed.
Over the past few hundred years however Greenland has been virtually
ice and snow. Until recently we have experienced a melting that has the
worlds attention. It is up to us to either believe that this is a normal
thing that can happen in earth cycles or that man is causing it. If it is
man causing it, then apparently according to God's word we will fix it. If
it isn't man causing it then we are running around in circles like a bunch
of fools. There is nothing wrong with making the air we breath a lot
cleaner. But there is one thing that is certain and that is that God's
Word is telling the truth. Be certain of this one thing, it will not be
over until God says that it is over.
Genesis 8: 22: While the earth
remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter,
and day and night shall not cease.
